CASPHOR, CHASPHO kăs fŏr (Χασφω) a town in Trans-Jordan where the Syrians under Antiochus Epiphanes held Jews captive. Judas the Maccabee stormed the city and released the Jews (1 Macc 5:26). Identifications have been made with Khisfin, E of the Sea of Galilee, and with el-Muzeirib on the Yarmuk River.
