Calced

(Lat. calceus, “shoe”). A term applied to certain religious orders who wear boots or shoes to distinguish them from other branches of the order who go barefoot or in sandals. Thus the Calced Carmelites, the unreformed branch of the order, wear shoes; the Discalced Carmelites of the Teresian reform wear sandals.
