BUKKI (bŭk'ī)

A prince of the tribe of Dan chosen to help Joshua divide the land (Num.34.22).Son of Abishua, and high priest of Israel (1Chr.6.5, 1Chr.6.51; Ezra.7.4).



BUKKI buk’ ī (בֻּקִּ֖י). 1. Son of Jogli; chief of the tribe of Dan; one of the men entrusted with the division of the land of Canaan among the Israelites (Num 34:22).

2. Son of Abishua and father of Uzzi; a priest in the line of Eleazar and an ancestor of Ezra (1 Chron 6:5, 51; Ezra 7:4; 1 Esd 8:2 KJV, ASV BOCCAS); called BORITH in 2 Esdras 1:2.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

(buqqi, "mouth of Jah"):

(1) A Danite, son of the tribal prince Jogli (Nu 34:22); he was one of the representative chiefs who assisted in the division of the land.

(2) Son of Abishua and father of Izzi, a priest, fourth in descent from Aaron, in the line of Eleazar (1Ch 6:5,51), and ancestor of Ezra (Ezr 7:4). In 2 Esdras 1:2 the name appears as Borith, and in 1 Esdras 8:2 as Boccas.
