Brügglers

A small sect founded at Brügglen, near Berne, Switzerland, about 1745 by two brothers, Christian (b.1710) and Hieronymus Kohler (1714-53). They proclaimed themselves the Holy Trinity with a convert, Elizabeth Kissling, functioning as the Holy Spirit. Because of this and the prediction of the end of the world at Christmas 1748, they were exiled by the Berne government in 1749. In 1753 Hieronymus was tried for heresy and executed in Berne. The group survived for a time in remote mountain regions, and was eventually absorbed by the Antonian* sect.
