Birsha

BIRSHA (bîr’sha). The king of Gomorrah who was defeated by Kedorlaomer (Gen.14.2).

BIRSHA bîr’ shə (בִּרְשַׁ֖ע, meaning perhaps son of wickedness). King of Gomorrah (Gen 14:2; Gen Apocryphon XXI, 24) who, with his allies, rebelled against Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and his allies, and was defeated. Later Abraham defeated Chedorlaomer rescuing the Gomorrahites and nephew, Lot.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

King of Gomorrah (Ge 14:2), who joined the league against Chedorlaomer. The name is probably corrupt; some have tried to explain it as beresha`, "with wickedness," a name purposely used by the writer in referring to this king.
