Beltethmus
BELTETHMUSbĕl tĕth’ məs (Βεέλτεθμος). An officer of Artaxerxes in Pal. (1 Esd 2:16, 25; KJV, ASV BEELTETHMUS). It is not a proper name, but appears to be a Gr. transliteration of the Aram. title of the office held by Rehum, the name immediately preceding it in 2:16. The same mistake occurs in v. 25. It is rendered “commander” (KJV, ASV “chancellor” in Ezra 4:8, 9. In 1 Esdras 2:17 it is rendered “recorder” (KJV, ASV “storywriter”).
