Beeshterah (Be-Eshterah)

BEESHTERAH (BE-ESHTERAH) be ĕsh’ tə rə (בְּעֶשְׁתְּרָ֖ה, in Astarte). One of the cities appearing in the list of Levitical cities of Joshua 21:27 and located on the E side of Jordan in Manasseh. The parallel passage of 1 Chronicles 6:71 has “Ashtaroth.” The spelling in Joshua 21:27 is either a contraction or a copyist mistake for Beth-ashtoreth (“house of Astarte”).
