BATANEA băt ă ne’ ă (Βατανία etc., Batanía). The Gr. name for Bashan in NT times (see, e.g. Josephus: Life 11; Antiq. xv. x. 1; xvii. ii. 1). The LXX, in contrast, uses Βασάν.
