AZAEL ā’ zĭ əl (̓Αζάηλος). 1. A Jew in the time of Ezra who put away his foreign wife and children (1 Esd 9:34; KJV, ASV AZAELUS).

2. The father of Jonathan, one of the investigators of foreign marriages (1 Esd 9:14 KJV, ASV; RSV has ASAHEL).
