ASRIEL (ăs'rĭ-ĕl)

Grandson of Manasseh and son of Gilead, and head of the family of Asrielites (Num.26.31; Josh.17.2).A son of Manasseh by his Aramean concubine (1Chr.7.14).


ASRIEL ăs’ rĭ əl (אַשְׂרִיאֵל). A descendant of Manasseh. His name is listed in the second census taken by Moses in the wilderness (Num 26:31; Josh 17:2; 1 Chron 7:14; KJV ASHRIEL); eponymous ancestor of the Asrielites (Num 26:31).

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

A man of Manasseh (Nu 26:31; Jos 17:2). The form Asrielites, i.e. family of Asriel, occurs in Nu 26:31. According to 1Ch 7:14, Asriel was born to Manasseh by an Aramitess concubine. the King James Version has "Ashnel."
