AMNON (ăm'nŏn)

Son of David by Ahinoam. By contrivance he raped his half-sister Tamar as she tended him during a pretended sickness; for this he was later murdered by Tamar’s brother Absalom (2Sam.13.1-2Sam.13.29).A son of the Judahite Shimon (1Chr.4.20).


AMNON ăm’ nŏn (אַמְנֹ֔ון, אֲמִינֹ֣ון, faithful). 1. Eldest son of David by Ahinoam, the Jezreelitess (2 Sam 3:2; 1 Chron 3:1). He dishonored his half-sister Tamar and was, therefore, slain by her brother Absalom (2 Sam 13).

2. A son of Shimon; a descendant of Judah (1 Chron 4:20).
