American Council of Christian Churches

An association of militant fundamentalists organized under the leadership of Carl McIntire in 1941 to promote and defend the historic orthodox Protestant faith, and to counter the activities of the Federal (since 1950 the National) Council of Churches. Its membership includes conservative separatist denominations such as the Bible Presbyterian Church and the Bible Protestant Church, as well as individuals from churches which belong to the National Council. The ACCC seeks to bring about a reformation of the doctrine and practice of the American churches on the basis of acceptance of the entire Bible as the verbally inspired, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. The NCC is considered apostate because it is tolerant of denials of orthodox doctrine and promotes programs of a communist and pacifist nature. True believers are urged to leave their corrupt denominations and join or form pure churches. In recent years the movement has been disrupted by serious internal squabbles.
