Agonizants

(Lat. = “to be at the point of death”). A religious order founded by Camillus of Lellis* in 1584. His followers (also known as Camillians) vowed to devote themselves to the plague-stricken. In 1591 Gregory XIV gave them the privileges of a Mendicant Order.
