Agathangelus
Author of the first two books of the History of Armenia. He claims to have been the royal secretary of King Trdat (or Tiridates) II (289- 317), but the legendary nature of much of his work suggests a date about the late fifth century. The History begins with the official conversion of Armenia to Christianity through the missionary work of Gregory the Illuminator.* Trdat, his persecutor, was converted and empowered Gregory to organize Christianity as the national religion of Armenia. Pagan temples and priests were replaced by Christian churches and clergy.
