Accent
ACCENT (λαλιά, G3282). This word does not occur in KJV nor in ASV, but it is used by RSV (Matt 26:73): “...for your accent betrays you” (where KJV and ASV render “thy speech” [betrays or makes thee known]). The word involved is lalia, which really means “way of speaking,” referring prob. to the dialectical peculiarity of one like Peter, who spoke Jewish Aram. in a way characteristic of Galilee. “Accent” may be too restricted a rendering, for lalia prob. included the peculiar use of words and idioms as well as mere accent or intonation.
