About This Class

As a worship leader, you don't lead music for people, you lead people with music. What do you do and say that is effective in inviting people in your congregation to worship God? How do you choose members of your worship team and then mentor them musically and spiritually? What truths do you emphasize and how do you articulate them? How do you design and implement a plan for your worship service? What should your planning time with your pastor look like?

The speaker for this class is Carl Cartee who is a lifelong musician who has had experience in playing concerts and recording music. For the past 17 years, he and his wife Heather have been leading worship, writing songs and mentoring musicians.

We strongly recommend that you attend this seminar in conjunction with Understanding Worship seminar by Dr. Gary Parrett. Gary will give you the theoretical basis for worship, and Carl will give the practical applications.

Lessons

  • Discover how worship leaders can powerfully reflect God's beauty and strength through worship. Learn to captivate minds and hearts, blending personal and corporate worship. Focus on key messages that resonate with your congregation for lasting impact.
  • Discover your true identity as a chosen, royal child of God. Embrace your calling to worship before leading others. God invites you to grow, not for necessity, but out of love. Work on yourself to create a lasting impact and a fulfilling life.
  • Align your words and actions to lead effectively as a worship pastor. Build trust, prioritize time with God, and focus on making disciples, not just pleasing people. Your calling is a journey—bear fruit with patience and passion beyond appearances.
  • Overcome insecurity and embrace humility as a worship leader. Focus on compassion and connecting with your congregation before leading worship. True Christian leadership descends into service, not fame. Discover humility in God's presence.
  • Unlock memorable worship experiences with creative thought and core Christian truths: God's holiness, human sinfulness, amazing grace, and Jesus as our hope. Embrace ancient confessions, creeds, and hymns. Worship is a relational encounter, not just a ritual.
  • Discover how to build trust and connect with your audience through genuine gestures and body language. Learn to foster long-term trust by representing the Bible with integrity, guiding rather than pushing, and creating a welcoming environment that encourages meaningful encounters with Christ.
  • Write your worship introductions thoughtfully (Prov 12:18, 10:19). As a worship leader, your words hold significant influence. Prepare by clearly stating what’s happening, who you are, and why you're leading, inviting the congregation into the experience.
  • Enhance worship with music that connects the heart to God's truth. Sing together and globally, making every song a unifying expression of faith. Introduce new songs effectively by repeating them for three weeks, starting with the chorus to familiarize your congregation.
  • For effective worship leadership, introduce new songs gradually over 3 weeks, focusing on key parts initially. Choose songs like a spiritual dietician, offering a balanced mix that resonates emotionally and mentally. Build trust with your pastor and team, and lead with prayerful intention.
  • Questions about how a pastor and worship leader can work together to create a seamless worship experience and model working together in relationship.
