Do you have faith or do you have works?
This week, we are recording Professor Doug Moo's class on First and Second Thessalonians. Professor Moo is one of the world's leading Pauline scholars, and his insights into Paul's heart and mind are exciting to learn. The class will be available in a couple of months.
This one clip is especially helpful. He's talking about the relationship between faith and works from 1 Thessalonians 1:3.
“We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (NIV).
Prof. Moo has been on the Committee on Bible Translation that oversees the NIV text for several decades, so it is especially interesting to hear him discuss the phrase “work produced by faith.” Do we earn our salvation (“works”) or do we receive it by “faith”? Is true “faith” always followed by obedience (“works”)?
If we are going to continue producing and distributing classes to the world for free, we need you to join with us in your donations and your prayers. Why do we do it for free? Jesus’s Great Commission is that we teach all people everything he said. The only way to reach all people is to distribute it for free. Please help us honor Jesus's commission
