HAIRCLOTH (בַּ֣עַל שֵׂעָ֔ר, lit. possessor of hair). In 2 Kings 1:8 RSV has “garment of haircloth” but KJV “hairy man.” The latter is supported by the Gr. MSS, Vul. and most Eng. VSS. The Baptist’s garb in Matthew 3:4, however, seems to support the RSV rendering above.
