Gilboa

GILBOA (gĭl-bō'a, Heb. gīlbō‘a, bubbling). It has been identified as Jabel Fuku’a, a range of barren hills on the eastern side of the Plain of Esdraelon, named from a noted spring. The mean elevation of the hills is about 1,600 feet (500 m.). Ain Jalud on the northern slope of the range has been identified as the location of the spring. Saul gathered his forces here to await an attack by the Philistines. Fear drove him to consult the witch of Endor (1Sam.28.4-1Sam.28.7). During the battle he was wounded, his forces were routed, and he committed suicide (1Chr.10.1-1Chr.10.8).
