GAZERA. 1. 1 Maccabees 4:15; 7:45; 13:43, etc. sometimes spelled GAZARA. This is another way of writing the name of the OT city of Gezer.

2. 1 Esdras 5:31=GAZZAM found in Ezra 2:48 and Nehemiah 7:51.

(Gazera):

(1) A fortress of Judea ( 1Macc 4:15; 7:45); in the Revised Version (British and American) always GAZARA (which see).

(2) Head of a family of temple-servants who returned with Zerubbabel ( 1Esdras 5:31) = "Gazzam" in Ezr 2:48 and Ne 7:51.
