Double Monasteries

Houses used by nuns and canons of the Order of Sempringham, founded by [[Gilbert of Sempringham]].* On his death in 1189 he left nine double houses. The only common portion was the church in which the nuns and canons could neither see nor hear each other. All other buildings were well apart.
