Dionysius of Paris

d. c.250?. Also known as Denys, patron saint of Paris. Traditionally it has been held that he was one of seven bishops sent to convert Gaul and that later he became bishop of Paris before becoming a martyr at Montmartre (Martyrs' Hill). In 626 his remains were translated to King Dagobert's foundation of St.-Denis, near Paris (the famous Benedictine abbey). Often he has been confused with other men of the same name (e.g., Dionysius the Areopagite).
