Desert of Sin

SIN, DESERT OF. A wilderness through which the Israelites passed on their journey from Elim and Mount Sinai (Exod.16.1; Exod.17.1; Num.33.11-Num.33.12). KJV reads “wilderness of Sin.” It is probably to be identified with Debbet er-Ramleh, a sandy tract in the interior of the peninsula of Sinai at the foot of Jebel et-Tih; but the coastal plain of el-Markhah has also been suggested. The fixing of its position depends on the location of Mount Sinai, about which scholars are in disagreement. See also Sinai.
