Demophon
DEMOPHON, Δημοφών. This man was described as a district governor in Pal. during the Maccabean era (2 Macc 12:2). With him were mentioned three other governors, Timothy, Apollonius and Hieronymus, who were in favor of the Hellenizing policy of the Seleucid regime. This brought them into conflict with the more orthodox segments of Jewry, provoking local disturbances.
