AZZUR (ăz'êr, Heb. ’azzur, helped)

Father of Hananiah the false prophet (Jer.28.1).Father of Jaazaniah (Ezek.11.1).One of the signers of the covenant in the days of Nehemiah (Neh.10.17).



AZZUR ăz’ ər (עַזּ֨וּר; KJV has AZUR in 1, 3). 1. The father of Hananiah, a false prophet of Gibeon in the days of King Zedekiah (Jer 28:1 ff.).

2. An Israelite leader who sealed the covenant with Nehemiah after the return from Babylon (Neh 10:17).

3. The father of Jaazaniah, an Israelite prince (Ezek 11:1).

(`azzur, "helpful"):

(1) The father of Hananiah, a false prophet of Gibeon in the days of Zedekiah (Jer 28:1ff).

(2) One of those who, with Nehemiah, sealed the covenant on the return from Babylon (Ne 10:17).

(3) The father of Jaazaniah, "one of" the princes of the people who gave wicked counsel to the city of Jerusalem (Eze 11:1f). the King James Version has "Azur" for (1) and (3), but the Hebrew form of (3) is `azur.
