A group which took its name from Audi, an ascetic deacon near Edessa about 325, who criticized worldliness in the church and clergy. Maltreated by his opponents, he left the church to become bishop of monastic communities in suburbs and deserts, from Antioch to Arabia and Mesopotamia. The exile of Audi and his followers to Scythia by Constantine won Gothic adherents.
