About This Class

Dr. Van Pelt introduces Song of Songs as wisdom literature that teaches God’s design for marriage. You learn its structure, speakers, and imagery, including the roles of the beloved shepherd, Solomon, and the daughters of Jerusalem. As the woman resists Solomon’s harem and chooses her beloved, the song presents a contrast between corrupted and covenantal marriage. The book ultimately teaches that marriage should be rock-solid in commitment and white-hot in intimacy so couples can endure hardship, resist temptation, and promote wholeness.
