Winter house

WINTER HOUSE (Heb. bēth ha-hōreph). Kings and wealthy people had separate residences for hot seasons and residences for cold seasons (Amos.3.15). King Jehoiakim had a fire in the brazier in his winter house (Jer.36.22).

WINTERHOUSE (בֵּ֣ית הַחֹ֔רֶף). In ancient Pal. the wealthy lived in winter and summer houses, depending upon the climate (Jer 36:22; Amos 3:15). This shows that luxury existed side by side with abject poverty.
