Mazarin Bible
The name given to a rare and beautiful Bible printed by J. Gutenberg* of Mainz about 1455, probably the first book to be printed in Europe. The copy which first attracted the attention of bibliographers was discovered in Cardinal Mazarin's great library, hence the name. It was issued in two volumes, in double columns with forty-two lines to the column. Of the forty copies said to survive, only two (at Munich and Vienna) are known to be complete.
