General Confession

A set form of confession suitable for all persons and all occasions and in the Book of Common Prayer* used at the beginning of Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer. The rubric directs that it is to be said by the whole congregation, after the minister, kneeling. It is based on Romans 7:8-25 and consists of a confession of sin to God, a prayer for forgiveness, and a prayer for grace to live rightly. It dates from the revised Prayer Book of 1552 and may have been suggested by the Confession in the Strasbourg Liturgy.
