Pastoral Leadership

When a church's elders are qualified, the people are cared for and the staff are supported and encouraged. But when the elders are not qualified, even one gossipy person can destroy a church of 1,000 people or more. It is a lot of work to develop a leadership culture and to follow biblical principles in appointing qualified people, but it is infinitely easier than salvaging a church being torn apart by unqualified leaders. If this sounds melodramatic or negative, please find some pastors whose ministries have been destroyed. You wouldn't have to look very far. There are three sources of disruption in the church: the pastor and/or staff, the elders, the congregation. What do all three have in common? People.
