Dr. Garrett has been the John R. Sampey Professor Of Old Testament Interpretation and Professor Of Biblical Theology since 2004. He brings many years of teaching, writing, research, and pastoral experience.

He has served on the faculty of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Bethel Seminary, Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary, Mid-America Baptist Seminary, and Korea Baptist Seminary. Along with his writings, he is the general editor for The Archaeology Study Bible from HarperCollins Christian Publishing.
