The Disciples College offers exactly what you might expect: lessons in discipleship -- specifically, lessons to help people be more devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
We utilize Biblical Training as one of our key resources to help you grow in your journey of faith, in your formation as a disciple, and in your effectiveness as a servant-leader in the setting where you are called to minister. And by "MINISTER" we do not mean only those who have a title like "Pastor" or "Religious Educator" or other formal position in the Church...but we do include those in our courses.
Whether you are interested in simply learning more about the Bible, taking an adult continuing education course, earning a certificate from The Disciples College, or completing the requirements for your Diploma, we are here to serve you. And be assured that the modest costs which might be expected are shared with the providers of the courses -- in this case, with BiblicalTraining.org
A little more about us within our own denominational context: The Disciples College has been tasked with providing curricula for those students who elect an "alternative-to-seminary track" to Ordination, or who desire to complete a curriculum which demonstrates their competencies for ministry as Commissioned Ministers. Please note that the Course of Study for the Ordination Track – in lieu of Seminary but with VERY SIMILAR content and requirements of the theological seminary basic degree—includes the following:
TEN (10) Semester Hours (or CEU’s) of Preparatory Courses from the Academy.
FORTY (40) Semester Hours (or CEU’s) of Seminary Core Courses from the Institute.
TWENTY-FOUR (24) Semester Hours (or CEU’s) of Institute Courses.
Denominational History/Polity/Theology (see link below) .
The TOTAL of SEVENTY-FOUR (74) Semester Hours (or CEU’s) is equivalent to the number of hours required of most M.Div. BASIC studies (i.e. where specializations are not chosen).
Normally, ONE YEAR of academic study will include two semesters of 12-14 hours each, or 25 hours per semester. Thus, this program constitutes approximately three years of full-time independent study, learning and preparation for standing in a denomination where the Master of Divinity is usually required but not accessible to the student, as is often the case with members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It is generally understood that it will take more than three years for a student to complete such a rigorous curriculum. Students who are under the care of their Commission or Committee on Ministry will find that they are granted "standing" in order to serve so long as they are (a) serving effectively in the ministry to which they have been called and (b) making satisfactory progress toward the completion of their assigned requirements. Finally, approval of the above course of study must be granted by the candidate's Mentor and his or her "Commission Committee on Ministry." Students from other denominations may participate, but they are strongly advised to confer with their judicatory or authorizing body or congregation in advance.
The ENTIRE Course of Study, not including “FOUNDATIONS” Courses, consists of 74 to 85 hours. Your degree designation upon completion will reflect your major; and your official transcript will be available for your use in your own ministerial context. We do not participate in any governmental financial aid programs and are not affiliated with any certifying or accrediting agencies at this time. But our course of study is rigorous, just like discipleship.
All students participating in this program are in the same study group, even though the pace or sequence of course participation will vary from student to student.
