Young Women’s Christian Association

This was originally two separate organizations, both founded in Britain in 1855 by Emma Roberts and Lady Kinnaird. They united in 1877, and the first World Committee of YWCAs met in London in 1894, to be followed by the first World Conference in 1898. With the Blue Triangle as its symbol, it has had numerical growth and spread of its activities parallel to those of its brother organization. Internationalism and interdenominationalism remain the keynotes of both movements, and the original evangelistic inspiration is still to be found in them.
