World Evangelical Fellowship

This body was set up in 1951 at Woudschoten, Holland, from members of the former British- based World's Evangelical Alliance, founded in 1846 (see Evangelical Alliance). The European former members of the WEA did not join the new body until 1967. Membership of the WEF is at present open to national evangelical fellowships which represent a substantial proportion of the conservative evangelical community in their countries, though this is under review. Members must subscribe to a basis of faith similar to that of a number of other conservative evangelical organizations. In 1967 a WEF office was set up in Lausanne, but administration has since been transferred to London, in the care of the Evangelical Alliance there. The WEF has three associated programs: the theological assistance program; international Christian assistance, administered through Britain's Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund; and evangelistic and Bible ministries.
