William Gallogly Moorehead

1836-1914. American biblical scholar. Born in Rix Mills, Ohio, he was educated at Muskingum College and Xenia Seminary, was ordained to the Presbyterian ministry in 1862, and held pastorates in Ohio and Pennsylvania. For some eight years from 1862 he was a missionary to Italy, and on his return was pastor, 1870-85. From 1873 to 1914 he was professor of Greek exegesis and biblical literature in Xenia Seminary, where he was president also from 1899. An editor of the “Scofield Bible,” leader in the Bible Conference and Student Volunteer movements, he was visiting lecturer at several Bible schools. He was also a dispensationalist and wrote many tracts and essays as well as biblical commentaries.
