Waters of Megiddo

MEGIDDO, WATERS OF. Mentioned in the victory song of Deborah (Judg 5:19). The allusion is prob. to the wady draining the basin behind Megiddo, between it and the hills to the S. Thutmose III encamped beside that brook, which was called Qina or Gina (qi-n) before attacking Megiddo (ANET 236, 238). The Biblical passage suggests that instead of dividing the spoil and receiving a reward for their services, which would have been done on the southern side of the Jezreel Valley in front of Taanach and Megiddo, the Canaanite kings were swept away by the torrent Kishon (q.v.) in the center of the plain.
