Thomas Adams
d.1653. “The prose Shakespeare of puritan theologians.” Little is known about his early life, but he appears as a preacher in London and the Home Counties from about 1612. He shows the typical Puritan pastoral interests, but no interest in sectarian or separatist Puritan groups. He wrote a commentary on 2 Peter and published sixty-five sermons and some meditations on the creed. His style is somewhat allegorical. Adams was probably a Royalist in the Civil War, which may explain his sequestration under the Commonwealth.
