Tambaram Conference

1938. Convened by the International Missionary Council,* the conference met near the Indian city of Madras during the closing days of 1938. It was notable for the impressive representation from the younger churches, whose problems were discussed and whose delegates brought a new dimension to the plea for Christian unity and the task of world mission. The conference, under the chairmanship of John R. Mott,* comprised 471 delegates from sixty-nine countries.
