Swaddling Band

SWADDLING BAND (Heb. hăthullâh, Gr. spargana). Strips of cloth (so niv) in which a newborn baby was wrapped. The child was placed diagonally on a square piece of cloth, which was folded over the infant’s feet and sides. Around this bundle bands of cloth were wound. Mary herself wrapped the baby Jesus in swaddling bands (Luke.2.7, Luke.2.12 kjv). For a figurative use, see Job.38.9.
