Provost

This ecclesiastical title was used in pre- Reformation England to signify the head of some collegiate churches. It is still used in the Church of England to denote the head of the cathedral chapter in “New Foundations.” In Scotland it was earlier used in a similar sense, and still is in the Episcopal Church.
