Potsherd Gate

POTSHERD GATE pŏt’ shûrd (שַׁ֣עַר חֲרָסוּת, gate of potsherds; MT proposes שַׁ֣עַר חַרְסִ֑ית, id., cf. ASV, THE GATE HARSITH, här’ sĭth). A city gate on the S side (cf. KJV EAST GATE) of preexilic Jerusalem (q.v.). Mentioned only in Jeremiah 19:2, it opened onto the Hinnom Valley and is prob. the same as the Dung Gate (q.v.).
