Peter Marshall
1902-1949. Presbyterian minister. Born in Coatbridge, Scotland, he studied at technical school and mining college, but in 1927 went to the USA, read theology at Columbia Seminary, Georgia, and was naturalized in 1938. Ordained to the Presbyterian ministry in 1931, he held pastorates in Georgia before becoming minister of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C., in 1937. He was chaplain to the U.S. Senate from 1947, where he was known for remarkably pithy prayers. He wrote The Mystery of the Ages (a study in Ephesians) and Mr. Jones, Meet the Master.
