PELONITE (pĕl'ō-nīt, Heb. pelônî, separates). The title of two of David’s mighty men, Helez and Ahijah (1Chr.11.27, 1Chr.11.36). It is thought that this designation originated from their place of birth because of the reference in 1Chr.27.10 that Helez was from Ephraim’s tribe.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

pel’-o-nit, pe’-lo-nit, pe-lo’-nit (peloni, a place-name): Two of David’s heroes are thus described: (1) "Helez the Pelonite" (1Ch 11:27) (see Paltite); and (2) "Ahijah the Pelonite" (1Ch 11:36).
