Three authentic works of Pacian are known: De Baptismo, a sermon to catechumens; Contra Novatianos, three letters to Symphronian, who propagated Novatiansim, in which Pacian defended the Catholic doctrine of forgiveness (in the first letter appears the famous epigram, “My name is Christian; my surname is Catholic”); and Paraenesis ad Poenitentiam, an earnest plea for penitence.
