Odilia
othilia) (d. c.720. Abbess and patroness of Alsace. She is reputed to have been the blind daughter of a Frankish nobleman, Adalric, and to have founded a nunnery at his castle of Hohenburg (Odilienberg) in the Vosges Mountains after recovering her sight. Her shrine in the abbey there became a great place of pilgrimage, especially for those with eye diseases. Famous people such as Charlemagne also visited it. In modern times it has enjoyed a revival as a place of pilgrimage.
