Mighty Men

MIGHTY MEN (גִּבֹּרִ֛ים). A designation used for outstanding strong men and heroes. The word first appears in Genesis 6:4 where the Nephilim and the offspring of “the sons of God” and “the daughters of men” are called geborim. All the men of Gibeon are called geborim (Josh 10:2), that is, “mighty.” It is Hushai who calls David and his men geborim (2 Sam 17:8). The designation also was employed for outstanding and strong warriors. The names and exploits of three such men and those of David’s “thirty” are recorded in 2 Samuel 23:8-39.
