Martin Boos

1762-1825. German preacher. After studying at Dillingen under J.M. Sailer,* he came under the influence of Michael Feneberg at Seeg Allgäu. Failing to find forgiveness through extreme asceticism, Boos adopted a doctrine of justification by faith which came very near to Lutheranism. Revival crowned the preaching at Wiggensbach in 1776/7. Put on trial for heterodoxy in 1797, he was acquitted. Accused again in 1798, he was compelled to flee to the diocese of Linz Austria. There he remained until he was forced to leave in 1816, when he became a religion teacher at a school in Düsseldorf. His final years were spent as parish priest at Sayn/Rhineland. The motto of Boos's life was “Christ for us and in us.”
