MAGDALENE (See MAGDALA; MARY)
MAGDALENE măg’ də lēn (Μαγδαληνή, G3402, signifying of Magdala. This was evidently the name of a village on the western shore of the Lake of Galilee, about three m. N of Tiberias.
One of the many Marys in the NT is identified as Mary 6.—literally, “Mary the Magdalene.” This would be necessary in order to distinguish her from the other Marys associated with Jesus. See
