MAGDALENE (See MAGDALA; MARY)
MAGDALENE măg’ də lēn (Μαγδαληνή, G3402, signifying of Magdala. This was evidently the name of a village on the western shore of the Lake of Galilee, about three m. N of Tiberias.
One of the many Marys in the NT is identified as [[Mary Magdalene]]—literally, “Mary the Magdalene.” This would be necessary in order to distinguish her from the other Marys associated with Jesus. See [[Mary]] 6.
