Lucianic Text

A revision of the text of the Greek Bible by Lucian of Antioch (c.240-312), which became the standard text of the Eastern Church. It lies behind the so-called Syrian (Westcott and Hort) or Byzantine (=Koinem) text of the NT and is thus the ultimate authority for the Textus Receptus, which lies behind the AV (KJV) and other early Protestant translations. This text is characterized by smoothness of language, which is achieved by the removal of barbarisms, obscurities, and awkward grammatical constructions, and by the conflation of variant readings.
